How To Move A Pool Table
Jul 28, 2020
Pool tables are as popular today as they were a century ago. Many people enjoy getting together for a fun evening of billiards with friends and family. Moving your prized table to another location will require a good amount of preparation and patience in order to do the job properly. Here are some great tips on how to safely move your pool table without damaging it or yourself.
Moving A Pool Table Process In A Few Easy Steps
Before you begin the moving process, gather all of the tools and supplies that you will need ahead of time. These items will include heavy blankets or bubble wrap to cover the table with, as well as tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches.
The first step will be to remove the pockets and railings from the side of the pool table. These pieces should detach with screws or bolts. Be sure to wrap the railings to prevent any scratches or damage from occurring during the move. The pockets and any other accompanying bolts or screws should be kept in a single box or tub for safekeeping and ease of assembly at the new location.
Removing The Slate
Now it is time to remove the felt covered, slate surface from the top of the table. Slate is very heavy and bulky to maneuver, so be very careful not to crack or damage it. Getting four people to help you at this stage is ideal, but there should be a minimum of two for this portion of the job. Wrap the slate up with bubble wrap or blankets to prevent any cracks or broken pieces.
Once the pool table has been relieved of the slate’s heavy weight, you can take off the table’s legs. Pool table legs normally are held on via a nut and bolt system. Remove one leg at a time, being careful not to cause the table to fall over or become off balance. Once the legs are off, wrap them in a protective covering as well.
At this point, all that should remain is the table frame itself. The weight of the frame will vary depending upon the type of wood used. Your remaining blankets and bubble wrap can now be utilized to carefully cover the frame to prevent any dents or scratches.
Moving A Pool Table To The Truck
Now that everything is ready to be loaded into the moving truck, be sure to keep all of the various component pieces together so nothing gets lost. Upon arrival at the new house, stage everything for reassembly. One of the most critical parts about moving a pool table is making sure that it is level in its new location. Get a hold of a quality leveling device to check the table from various vantage points.
If it seems that moving your pool table by yourself is too much of a daunting task, you certainly have the option of hiring a professional moving company to take care of everything. No matter which route you decide to take, getting the table to your new home damage free will remain the top priority.
